Web Clipper

OutClip for Outline

Saves the page you are reading into your own self-hosted Outline — as clean Markdown, with the full text and not just what you highlighted.

Available for Chrome and Firefox.

The page you are reading, as Markdown in the OutClip popup, before you send it

What OutClip does

free

Full text, not fragments

OutClip uses Defuddle, the same extraction library behind the official Obsidian Web Clipper, with around 25 site-specific readers. Navigation, ads and comment sections are left behind.

Pick where it lands

Choose the collection and, if you like, the document to nest it under — from the actual tree in your Outline. You can create a new collection right there, and the last place you used is preselected next time.

Images become yours

Your Outline server fetches each image itself and keeps its own copy — no image data passes through the extension. Anything it cannot reach stays as a link to the source.

Edit before you save

Fix the title, trim the Markdown, then send it. If you only want the selection, OutClip takes just that.

With a licence

€7.99 / $8.99, one-time

Four things the licence unlocks. All four still run only between your browser and your Outline — no vendor server, no telemetry.

Recipes as recipes

On pages with recipe data (schema.org) OutClip builds a document of its own: photo, key facts, ingredients as a checklist, numbered steps and nutrition.

Multiple Outline servers

One profile per server, each with its own address and its own token. Switchable in the popup.

Rules per site

One rule per domain (subdomains included): profile, collection and, if you like, a fixed target document. Everything stays editable before saving.

There are plenty of web clippers. Most save the paragraph you highlighted and link the images to wherever they happen to live. A year later the article has moved and your clip is a page of broken boxes. OutClip came out of that annoyance.

How it works

STEP 01

Connect once

Enter the address of your Outline and a personal API token. OutClip only asks for access to that one address.

STEP 02

Save the page

Click the button, pick a collection, adjust title and text if you like, then send.

STEP 03

Find it in Outline

Clean Markdown with its own copies of the images, filed where you wanted it.

What it costs

Frequently asked questions

Lost your key?

It is in the purchase email. Otherwise sign in to Polar's customer portal with your email address.

New browser, new computer?

In OutClip, go to Settings → Licence → “Remove from this browser”, then enter the key in the new one. If the old browser no longer exists: write to me (page in German) and I will free the slot.

How many browsers?

Up to 5 at the same time.

Which currency?

At checkout you see the price in euros or US dollars, depending on your location.

Are updates included?

Yes, with no expiry. I promise bug fixes and updates for new Outline and browser versions. I consider OutClip finished; new features are possible but not promised.

Refunds?

Handled by Polar as the seller (merchant of record), under their terms.

What do I need?

Your own Outline, version 1.7.1 or newer, with an API token, plus Chrome or Firefox.

Are there limits?

Outline limits image imports to about 25 per minute. On large pages saving takes correspondingly longer — the popup tells you beforehand.

Append to an existing document — how?

The popup has a switch between “New document” and “Append to a document” — no licence needed. With “Append”, you find the target by title (Outline's search); the last five used are quick picks. The clip lands at the end, below a divider and a heading that carries its title.

Multiple Outline servers — how?

One profile per server (name, address, its own API token). One profile is the default. The popup has a selector at the top — you can change the profile per clip, and the last one used is remembered. Permissions are requested per address.

Rules per site?

One rule = domain (subdomains included) → profile, collection, and optionally a location or a fixed target document. When the popup opens on a matching page, everything is preselected and a small note says “Rule for <domain>”. You can still change everything before saving. No title patterns, no selectors — deliberately simple.

Four promises

Data goes only to your server

To the Outline address you entered yourself. No vendor server, no analytics, no telemetry.

Privacy policy →

Minimal permissions

OutClip asks for access to your Outline address only — not to the web at large — and asks when you connect, not when you install.

Tested against real versions

Tested against self-hosted Outline 1.7.1, 1.10.1 and 1.12.0; anything in between should work. You need your own Outline and a personal API token (Settings → API Keys).
